Public Defenders
Not everyone qualifies for a public defender.
Who Qualifies?
To qualify for a public defender you must show that you are a person who is unable to afford an attorney on your own.
How to Request a Public Defender.
You must ask the judge to appoint a public defender, the judge will either ask you questions to determine if you are eligible, or will ask you to fill out a form that shows your income, assets, etc. Please click on the link to view and print the form to help you be better prepared when you get to court, the form takes a moment to load so be patient.
When parents are victims of the crime.
When parents are the victims of the crime, they are not required to provide an attorney for their child. A public defender will be automatically appointed unless the parent or child wants to hire an attorney.
